Los Angeles Burning

There is a not-yet-contained fire burning in Griffith Park. I saw the plumes of smoke rising behind downtown as my plane flew in last night around 7:00. As I drove home from the airport, I saw the flames whipping up on the hills just east of the Hollywood sign. This is the second fire in the Hollywood Hills this spring. The first one was arson, and it stayed on the other side of the hill, above Studio City. Is this one arson or an accident (possibly the result of careless cigarette dropping in one of the park's golf courses)? I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Here's hoping they get this under control soon. Good luck to the firefighters and to Griffith Park. We've already lost some great hiking destinations overnight. Sigh.
