One Nation Controlled by the Media, Redux

Thanks go out to Ty for alerting me to this blog, which includes text of a speech by Ashleigh Banfield about our television media and the way it both plays into and shapes the consumers' appetite for news coverage. That speech got her demoted and eventually fired as a MSNBC correspondent. When will our serious journalists stand up and try to change the system? When will consumers wake up and demand more than mediocrity and the race to the bottom from our mainstream news sources?

I don't know Ms. Banfield, but she is my current hero.

You can read all of Ms. Banfield's remarkable speech here. One wonders whether the speech would have produced the same reaction had it been given by Dan Rather, Tom Brokaw, or Anderson Cooper.
